Outsourcing to India Creates Jobs in London as Indian IT Firms Headquarter There
By: john parker
When British Unions made off-shoring / outsourcing of British
IT jobs to India a major issue of national concern, they had not
taken into consideration Indian jobs that were coming to Britain
as a result of the off-shoring / outsourcing trend. An
interesting trend that saw many big name Indian IT companies
like Infosys returning favour by setting up headquarters,
creating new jobs and employment opportunities in countries that
had off-shored / outsourced work, helping them grow into
companies with an international presence. And, nine years ago,
London benefited from having off-shored / outsourced IT work to
Infosys, an Indian IT firm who set base in the capital making it
the largest IT sector in Europe. Infosys, an Indian company with
offices and a 37,000 strong workforce worldwide, tangible proof
off-shoring / outsourcing works, benefiting all, a two-way
street with many advantages.
Case studies conducted by London's official foreign investment
agency confirm several Indian IT companies have invested in
London by setting up offices and hiring locally. Think Infosys,
a company that hires 115 full-time staff and 800-consultants on
client sites throughout Great Britain. Presently, in the midst
of relocating from Croydon to CanaryWharf to establish a greater
presence, Infosys in London is the positive off-spin of
off-shoring / outsourcing.
In 2003, BITS Infotech UK another Bangalore based company joined
Infosys, came to London and set up its European headquarters on
the east side with a staff of seven, and plans to expand over
the coming years. Cygnus, Fusion Infotech and Intas
Pharmaceuticals, all Indian companies followed suite
establishing London offices and offering employment
opportunities to the very British who made such a hue and cry
about job loss to countries like India.
The moral of the story is: "What goes around comes around." By
off-shoring / outsourcing work, helping small Indian companies
to grow into international giants with a worldwide presence, the
good deed has come full circle with Indian companies creating
and offering employment to Americans and Europeans. No doubt,
this will allay the fears and unrest about job loss as a result
of off-shored / outsourced to countries like India and others.
A long-term blessing, let's roar the huzzahs roar for
off-shoring / outsourcing
